Since 2003 the Hartsville Fire Co. has held a 9-11 Flag Memorial on September 11th. It consists of a display of 343 American flags on the front lawn of the Fire Station. Each flag represents a New York City firefighter who died on 9-11-2001. A 9/11 Memorial Service was begun in 2004 to honor those firefighters. It is held at 7 PM. Two additional flags were added to remember Volunteer Firefighters John Kulick and Tristan Smith who were killed in action in Iraq. They joined the military in response to the September 11th attack.

The public is invited and attendees are encouraged to participate in reading the names and retrieving the flags.

When it was learned that the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey was planning to give away steel from the World Trade Center, the fire company applied for a piece. Our request was granted and we were put on a waiting list. A plan to establish a permanent memorial at the station to the events on September 11, 2001 was begun.

Please purchase a brick to help support the preservation of our 911 Memorial.
